About the Colorado Channel


 

 

Mission Statement


The mission of The Colorado Channel is:

1) To provide Coloradans with the opportunity to watch the Colorado General Assembly at work.

2) To provide House members with a direct and unfiltered conduit to Coloradans through high quality non-commercial television coverage and the Internet.

3) To educate a new generation of civic leaders and voting citizens, and thus play a leading role in creating a civic culture in Colorado.

4) To adhere to broadcast production values that accurately convey the business of House floor proceedings without editing, interpreting, or distorting the proceedings. It is the intent of the Colorado Channel Board of Directors that video coverage of House floor sessions not change or modify House procedures.

 

The Colorado Channel Board of Directors

The Colorado Channel Board of Directors (CCBD) makes all broadcast decisions for legislative television coverage. The CCBD is composed of one representative from each of the following offices as voting members: Speaker of the House, House Minority Leader, President of the Senate, and Senate Minority Leader. Non-voting members are the Chief Clerk of the House, the Secretary of the Senate.


Who provides the Colorado Channel The Colorado Channel (channel 165) is a private/public enterprise to provide additional public access to the Colorado legislative process.  Private contributions and funds were provided to build the first phase of the project which is to televise the proceedings in the Colorado House of Representatives.  COMCAST Cable TV has provided the Colorado General Assembly with a channel (channel 165) on which the legislature can provide video of the proceedings of the Colorado House of Representatives.  Private funding was provided to purchase the equipment necessary for producing quality TV video and web streaming video (Please see our SPONSORS page) .  The City and County of Denver provided the funds to connect the Capitol Building with high speed broadband cable access.  The Colorado General Assembly has provided the office space for the video production equipment and is currently funding its operating costs.

What is on the Colorado Channel?The Colorado Channel (channel 165) will ONLY broadcast video of the Colorado House of Representative floor proceedings for 2008 on COMCAST Cable TV and web stream to the internet.  Archive files of all House floor proceedings videos will also be available at our web site.

What are the plans for the Colorado Channel?If this pilot project is successful in providing a valuable service, it is anticipated that the Colorado Senate floor proceedings will also be broadcast in 2009.
